Look Left
It’s been a while (at least, like, a day) since I posted the kids together, so here they are, elegantly out of sync.
Like a baby
Whoever invented the phrase “sleeping like a baby” obviously only ever saw pictures like this one, rather than the scenes of screaming mayhem that led up to the decision to carefully place a baby on the floor rather than removing the cushion from under his head.
Lately he’s been getting frustrated on his stomach, as crawling fails to happen after weeks of conscious work. He definitely knows what he’s aiming for. At the same time, he’s starting to straighten his arms (not supporting his whole torso, but putting his arms out to the side to lift his chest a bit higher). His process looks exactly like Louisette’s so far, so I imagine we’ve got a month or two of work before he can crawl. Time to re-evaluate household safety. . .
Writing
This was taken as I edited a novel a few moments ago. Technically both kids have been asleep at the same time for over an hour, so – yay. Bloggy blog and back to the novel.
Poppy and a lid
TJ definitely knocks plastic toys together to make a sound. He takes after me, though, and does it in the easiest possible way – using his dummy as a base. He’s already done all this work finding the location of his mouth (aka a fixed point), and the dummy is nice and steady. It works great. Of course he often hits himself in the face, but that’s just another way he takes after me.
Today also features Poppy, who visited today.
Yesterday he said “Maaa” and “Daaa”. “M” and “ah” are recent sounds. I amuse myself by saying, “Mum mum mum mum mum” to him quite often (did this with Louisette, and her first word was “Mum”). It’s clear he know this is a thing, because he was saying “Mmm” to me a lot.
Finally a decent conversationalist
On Monday night, when Louisette was going to bed and we had guests, she waved goodnight – and TJ waved back. Twice. Lately he’ll vocalise displeasure with sounds before going straight to crying which is pretty awesome. I can distinguish in an instant between pleased and unhappy raspberries.
He’ll also have a full dramatic conversation by himself – happy, then becoming distressed, then resolving whatever-it-was himself and being happy again. It’s funny how different he and Louisette are already. She never ever did that.
Last Bath
This is either the last or the second-last time TJ has a bath in a specific baby bath. He’s getting too big, so it’s going to someone else this weekend. Louisette loves it when he gets into the big bath with her.
